Honeywell is a company with its hands in several distinct pots, ranging from aerospace to safety equipment to quantum computing. Will.i.am is a musical performer who dabbles in many different genres, projects, and business ventures. So what would you get if you put both together? The Xupermask, a face mask with lipstick straight from Cyberpunk 2077 and every bell and whistle you can imagine.
Bringing Honeywell’s expertise in fabricating N95 face masks and Will.i.am’s propensity for compelling trends, the Xupermask is made from mesh cloth and silicon. The mask has three dual-speed fans built into it to aid the HEPA filtration system. For music lovers, there are also built-in Bluetooth headphones using noise-canceling tech. LED lights illuminate both prominent filters onto the front of the mask. An integrated rechargeable battery powers everything.
The Xupermask will sell for US$299, which looks ridiculously expensive for a very simple face mask. Considering the Bluetooth noise-canceling cans, though, that price makes a bit more sense. But, that is highly dependent on the quality of the headphones and the effectiveness of the mask, which Honeywell points out does not possess medical-quality filtration.
Considering that the Xupermask will sell in hyped-up”drops” directly to interested clients, it sounds more akin to expensive sneakers, stylized headphones, and other pricey pieces of futuristic fashion. The Xupermask appears to be about making a statement and turning heads rather than combating the current pandemic.
